INESC TEC
INESC Technology and Science (INESC TEC) is a private, non-profit association dedicated to scientific research and technological development, technology transfer, advanced consulting and training, and pre-incubation of new technology-based companies. Its associates are the University of Porto, INESC, the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, the University of Minho and the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro.
Within INESC TEC’s 13 R&D centers, 732 integrated researchers (of which 354 PhD holders) work on industrial consulting and European and national research projects, materializing INESC TEC’s vision to be a relevant international player in Science and Technology in the fields of Computer Science, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Networked Intelligent Systems, and Power and Energy.
Centre for Power and Energy Systems
The Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) is INESC TEC’s main actor in the areas of electrical energy and employs 89 collaborators, including 32 PhD holders. The center is internationally endorsed for its expertise in problems relating to the integration of renewable energy in power systems, distributed generation and smart grids, the areas traditionally associated with planning and operating power systems.
The centre’s robust track record in technology transfer and consulting has led to contracts with equipment manufacturers, generation, transmission and distribution companies, regulators, government agencies, and investors in Europe, South America, the United States of America and Africa. CPES is also notable to many for hosting the Smart Grids and Electric Vehicles laboratory (SGEVL): a space where advanced calculation and simulation equipment supports technical activities and offers the right setting to prototype and experiment with new concepts before they are scaled up within the industry.
